MY ILLNESS MY TREATMENT

initiative

of active patient and support organizations that tirelessly provide valuable and important support to patients, individuals or vulnerable groups in difficult life situations every day. These organizations are pillars of help and empathy.

The My Treatment initiative is a civic online platform that brings together 47 patient and supporting organizations in a joint effort to secure fair access to modern treatment for all patients in Slovakia - on par with access anywhere else in Europe.

We believe that treatment is not a matter of luck or wealth, but a matter of dignity and equality. Today’s system fails to adequately ensure access to modern, effective medicines for hundreds of people living with oncological, rare, and chronic conditions, with real consequences for the quality and length of their lives.

Together with experts, patients, and the wider public, we call for a transparent and fair decision-making process on medicines that reflects the real needs of patients and takes into account medical, human, and societal considerations.

Our initiative delivers:

Substantive dialogue with the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic and experts,

An open letter and formal comments on proposed legislation that threatens access to treatment,

Roundtables and public discussions, both within the ministry and in the media, and public engagement and mobilization in support of systemic solutions.

We believe that patients cannot wait when their lives depend on access to treatment. Together, we are calling for systemic changes that will ensure access to modern medicines is not merely a promise, but a reality for every patient in Slovakia.

inner dialogues

internal focus groups

The current situation, based on the absence of action steps from the ministries and relevant authorities to address the systemic setting of healthcare, social services, nursing care, and the functional relationship between ADOS and mobile hospices, prompted us to create internal focus groups "inner dialogues". It includes content-focused groups of experts from the fields of healthcare, social services, advocacy, pharmacoeconomics, legislation, and from relevant authorities and ministries.
